Full Press Release

Idaho Falls, Idaho – A new documentary about youth substance use prevention in Idaho called
Welcome to the Unaltered State is premiering April 22, and Idaho Public Television wants families with
teens and tweens to join in a statewide dinner and a movie event.

According to a 2025 survey completed by Rathbone Falvey Research, 1 in 5 kids in Idaho is regularly
vaping, a rate that is twice the national average. Rates of youth alcohol, marijuana and opioid misuse
are also higher than the national average.

The program explores the realities Idaho youth are facing today: easy-to-access illicit substances and a
youth mental health crisis. The campaign is designed to shift attitudes and behavior surrounding youth
substance use. Learn about today’s drug landscape, the incredible adolescent brain, the Idaho
organizations who offer support to kids and families, and simple ways to strengthen connections in
your family, schools and community. It’s a message of love and hope.

Elevate Academy, along with partners Eastern Idaho Public Health, Idaho Public Television,
Idahoans for Substance-Free Futures, LIV, Community Youth in Action, and Sparc will be
working together for a local showing of this film. Following the film, a panel of experts including
substance use professionals, mental health professionals, and law enforcement will answer questions
from the crowd.
